Micro-Needling

Collagen Induction Therapy

Micro-Needling

Also known as collagen induction therapy (CIT), microneedling is a state of the art treatment that uses a skin pen or Dermaroller to minimize fine lines and wrinkles, reduce acne scars, reduce or eliminate hyperpigmentation, and reduce stretch marks. It can also improve skin tone, reduce pore size, and more.

Micro-needling skin pen or Dermaroller are a bunch of tiny needles to puncture the very first layer of skin. This process works to rejuvenate your skin by boosting collagen production, which in turn reduces the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and elevates the overall texture of your skin

Superficial puncture wounds, releasing growth factors that stimulate the fibroblasts creating new collagen and elastin.

The aim of the treatment Is to traumatise the skin without collateral damage to epidermis and healthy tissue. The recovery is rapid with very little downtime, residual pain or discomfort.

Microneedling increases the availability of cell nutrients and helps to strengthen the collagen in vessel walls and connective tissue. It increases the density of the epidermis lessening the appearance of broken capillaries.

How It Works

Micro-needling works by encouraging your skin to make more collagen. The idea is that pinpricks from the procedure cause slight injury to the skin and that the skin responds by making new collagen-rich tissue.

This new skin tissue is, in turn, more even in tone and texture. It’s normal for the skin to lose collagen via age or injury. By encouraging the skin to make new tissue, there may be more collagen to help make the skin firmer, too.

Questions & Answers

How long before I see results

Four to six weeks

This triggers your body's wound healing processes to heal your micro wounds immediately. However, the most dramatic results will not be visible until four to six weeks after treatment. It takes roughly this long for your body to create new, strong, healthy collagen.

Can Micro-Needling Make My Skin Worse

It's also possible to experience acne breakouts after skin needling. However, these should be mild and clear up on their own. Avoid picking at your skin, as this can lead to further scarring. The severity of micro-needling side effects also depends on how you prepare for the procedure.

How Often Should You do Micro-needling Treatments

We Recommend every 4 to 6 weeks

As a general rule of thumb, micro-needling treatment can be safely done about once a month or every 4 to 6 weeks.

Mild treatments may be repeated every 2 to 4 weeks

Is Micro-Needling Painful

During a micro-needling session, the outermost layer of the skin is pricked with microneedles to promote collagen formation and skin regrowth. The procedure isn't overly painful. There are ways to minimize discomfort. The most common side effects of micro-needling are skin redness and irritation.

What Happens Post-Treatment

After the procedure your skin will be red and flushed in appearance in a similar way to moderate sunburn. You will also experience skin tightness and mild sensitivity to touch on the area being treated. This will diminish greatly after a few hours following treatments and within the next 24 hours the skin will be completely healed. After 3 days there is barely any evidence that the procedure has taken place.

What Topical Serums Can Be Used Along With The Derma-Roller

Skin needling will induce collagen synthesis on its own (dry skin needling), but skin improvements is significantly enhanced by combining skin needling treatments with the topical application of vitamin A  prior, during and post treatment. Vitamin C  is an essential co-factor to be used alongside vitamin A. Both vitamin A and C work synergistically to induce collagen synthesis and help regenerate the skin.

Who is a good candidate for micro-needling?

People who are unhappy with the appearance of their skin due to a rough texture, wrinkles, pore size, scars, stretch marks, or pigmentation issues. Micro-needling offers major improvement for most skin care issues.  Pigmentation

How many micro-needling treatments are needed?

It depends on the particular issue or issues being treated. People who have uneven skin tone and minor facial lines can often see results after a single treatment, while 4-6 sessions may be needed to treat deeper acne scars fully.

What type of recovery time is needed after micro-needling?

One of the major benefits of this treatment is that it requires no downtime. The skin may appear like it has a mild sunburn for a day or two following micro-needling treatment, but this resolves quickly. A small amount of swelling can also occur, but this abates soon as well. Patients need to avoid the sun and tanning beds immediately after micro-needling, as the skin will be more sensitive for a couple of days following the treatment.
